My Son's First Thanksgiving Luncheon

In Attarilan's class for Thanksgiving Luncheon 2004. It is actually Abdes' and my first one, too. We enjoy the ambience in Attar's school.... but being honest, we cannot enjoy the food :( We don't like turkey.

After the kids' nap time, we went back to the school because we had promised to make a presentation about Indonesia. It was really exciting, doing a presentation before 20 4-year old kids!!! I prepared PowerPoint, with interesting graphics and photos. Then I played traditional music from Bali, and get the kids do the Frog dance. How? Just hop around...and say "ribbit...." The best part was our puppet show! It was such a coincidence, when we went to Riatu's apartment, we found a pair of Rama-Shinta wayang golek that supposed to be gifts to her neighbour :) She was so kind to lend them to us. Abdes did the puppet show, as usual...he can always make the kids laugh and laugh... It was such an interesting experience, especially with this special audience.

When we were ready to go home with Attar, one of his friend approached Abdes and said, "I really liked the puppet show. I also loved the world where you come from. Thank you."

We were surprised by his comment. It was a really genuine one. Thanks to you, too, kids!

We hope this little presentation will open their mind that their world is not only where they live in. World is not only the United States of America. There are many people living in different places, with different way of living. The differences indeed color the universe.

These kids are our future. What we've done is just a little effort to make a world a better place.

** That presentation was encouraged by the Fulbright program, in conjunction with International Education Week (November 15-19).
