Batik :: Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity

Batik is Indonesian cultural heritage, and now it is in the list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Read more here.

Today, Indonesians are urged by the President to wear Batik, in accordance to the inclusion of Batik by UNESCO as intangible heritage.

I saw several people in Bali in Batik, today. Particularly my fellow mates at KITASATUBALI. However, we must acknowledge that batik tulis, not just any batik motive print, is the one that is endorsed by UNESCO as Indonesian heritage.

Nevertheless, it is really good to know that Indonesians start to appreciate the culture, even in the most informal, popular way! It's never too late :)
